Michelle Obama Response To Why She Won’t Run For 2020 President Revisited
Michelle Obama supporters are still hoping that the ex-FLOTUS would have a change of heart regarding next year’s presidential race.
Recent polls revealed that Barack Obama’s wife could be named as the new president of the United States if only she would run for office. However, the mom of two has already said that she won’t.
During her interview on “Today,” the former FLOTUS gave a handful of reasons why she won’t run for president in 2020, and they have nothing to do with President Donald Trump.
"Just because I gave a good speech, I'm smart and intelligent doesn't mean I should be the next president. That's not how we should pick the president. That’s been our problem. We're very shortsighted about how we think about selecting the commander in chief,” she said.
The former first lady also said that one of the reasons why she won’t run for president is because she doesn’t want to have the top job. But Michelle said that she cannot speak for the likes of Oprah Winfrey because there are also rumors that she could run for president.
"And you can't just say, 'Well, you're a woman, run.' We just can't find the women we like and ask them to do it because there are millions of women who are inclined and do have the passion for politics,” she said.
The former president’s wife also admitted that she doesn’t have a passion for politics, unlike her husband. She simply became associated with the role because she is married to someone who is passionate about it.
Meanwhile, even though the former FLOTUS already said that she won’t run for president, Democratic Party bigwigs are still urging her to change her mind.
“I think people would like her to run for the White House. It is felt she is truly a star who could do almost anything or win any election,” Washington Post editor Steven Levingston told Inside Edition.
