Michelle Obama’s Video Praising Harvey Weinstein Resurfaces After DNC Appearance [Watch]
While some are praising Michelle Obama’s straightforward DNC speech, conservatives on Twitter are resurfacing a video of her praising Harvey Weinstein. The convict’s name was trending on Twitter Tuesday morning.
“He is a wonderful human being, a good friend and just a powerhouse,” Obama says of the film producer in the video.
However, the time and place is important to note. The video was taken on Nov. 8, 2013, several years before Weinstein was charged with rape. The former first lady was making a speech at a Careers in Film Symposium at the White House, which was organized by Weinstein and his team. She was thanking them for their involvement. Whoopi Goldberg, Naomie Harris, Ryan Coogler, David Frankel and Blake Lively also attended the event.
When the video resurfaced on Tuesday, just hours after Obama delivered her "It is what it is" DNC speech, conservative actor James Woods noted, “Beautiful endorsement tonight. She’s a great judge of character, so please be kind. No trolling. Oh, wait...”
It would be another four years until the New Yorker and the New York Times published the high-profile accusations against Weinstein in October 2017.
The video of Obama praising Weinstein recirculates every so often, particularly when the “Becoming” author is in the spotlight. In February, President Donald Trump was asked about Weinstein, and the POTUS brought up the former first lady.
“I was never a fan of Harvey Weinstein… I will say, the people that liked him were the Democrats. Michelle Obama loved him. Loved him. Hillary Clinton loved him. And he gave tremendous money to the Democrats,” he said at a press conference in New Delhi in February.
Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison earlier this year. He was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape.
As Republicans post about Obama and Weinstein, Democrats on Twitter are pointing out Trump’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, both accused of sex trafficking.
