Michelle Yeoh, Dwayne Johnson And Mindy Kaling To Be Honored As A100 Legends
Michelle Yeoh, Dwayne Johnson and Mindy Kaling lead this year’s Gold House’s A100 list of awardees which honors Asians and Pacific Islanders (APIs) who have made significant contributions to the American culture in various aspects.
While the trio will be awarded as A100 Legends, “Crazy Rich Asians” actress Gemma Chan and 33-year-old “Star Wars” actress Kelly Marie Tran are among the artists who will be inducted into the A100 Hall of Fame.
The other honorees in the Entertainment section list are “Shang Chi” star Simu Liu, “The Eternals” director Chloe Zhao, “The Lost City” actor Bowen Yang and “Turning Red” director Domee Shi.
Also on the list are 2018 Tony awardee Ashley Park, Youtuber and singer Bella Poarch. K-pop superstar Lisa Manobal of Blackpink is also on the list along with stand-up Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy and Grammy-winning singer and songwriter, Olivia Rodrigo. Jason Momoa, Daniel Wu, singer Hailee Steinfeld and “Pachinko” creators Justin Chon, Kogonada, Soo Hugh and Theresa Kang-Lowe are also among the A100 honorees this year.
Recipients of the annual A100 honorees are selected by a committee of judges in several categories. This year, Broadway star and Disney legend Lea Salonga leads the list along with “Hawaii Five-O” actor Daniel Dae Kim, A100 Hall of Famer and CNN host, Lisa Ling, producer Janet Yang and CEO of Ankler media, Janice Min.
Johnson celebrated his Black and Samoan heritage in a statement. “I could not be more proud of my Black and Samoan heritage, and one of my greatest passions in life is enriching my daughters’ lives with our people’s history so they also understand the importance of our great ancestry and its meaning,” he said.
For the first time, Gold House will honor the awardees in person at the inaugural Gold Gala on May 21 in Los Angeles. This year’s theme is “The New Gold Age” which marks the launch of a collaborative campaign between Gold House and Procter & Gamble that will focus on empowering APIs to be proud of their identities and heritage. The campaign dubbed "The Name" will also help others to learn, understand and correctly pronounce API names.
