A couple in Michigan has been sentenced for torturing and killing their 3-year-old daughter with special needs. The child reportedly died after suffering numerous injuries, bite marks and gouges.

Destiny Bingaman and her husband George Bingaman from Mt. Morris Township were sentenced Wednesday for murdering their 3-year-old daughter in 2018. Destiny was sentenced to 13 years in prison while George was sentenced to 10 years in jail, ABC 12 reported.

The couple faced charges including felony murder, first-degree child abuse, torture and two counts of child abuse in the presence of another child, WNEM reported.

The victim who was born prematurely and suffered from developmental delays was found unresponsive at the couple's home on July 30, 2018. She was pronounced dead later at the hospital.

A medical examination revealed that the child had scores of markings all over the body including bruises and pinch marks. An investigation revealed that the undernourished child died of severe neglect and physical abuse that she endured for almost two years.

The sentencing comes after Destiny admitted that she had physically abused her daughter on several occasions. Destiny said she has struck the toddler against a wooden crib at least 15 times. The toddler was also slammed against objects and pinched with sharp objects to pierce her skin all over.

An investigation also revealed that the child suffered from seizures but did not receive any medical attention for two years. The couple's other two children were found unharmed and were removed from their custody after the incident, according to a previous report from ABC 12.

Last month, a Florida mother was accused of killing her special needs daughter while the latter was in a hospital bed. Jessica Bortle from Bonifay was accused of murdering her 14-year-old daughter after the girl broke and threw coloring crayons in her hospital room. Bortle admitted that she slammed a hospital table at her daughter and leaned her weight on it causing the child grievous injuries. An autopsy revealed that the child's liver was "ripped open due to blunt force trauma." Investigators determined that the child did not have any of those injuries when she was admitted to the hospital.
