UPDATE: August 10, 2017 12:45 p.m. - The man who closed down I-75 by barricading himself in his car and having a stand off with police has been apprehended, according to police.

Original Story:

A section of the I-75 freeway in Michigan near the Ohio border was shut down Thursday after a man led police on a car chase and threatened to kill himself and police officers.

The man was streaming the incident on Facebook Live. He then barricaded himself in his vehicle on the highway, leading to a standoff with police.

Deputies of the county sheriff’s office in Pontiac, Michigan, attempted to do a wellness check on the 37-year-old man early Thursday morning, according to CBS news radio affiliate WWJ in Detroit.

“During the pursuit, the driver actually had the Facebook Live app streaming and the officers were able to see that not only was he making threats to kill himself but also to kill law enforcement officers pursuing him,” Michigan State Police Lt. Tony Cuevas told WWJ Thursday.

The slow moving car chase went southbound on I-75 before the man stopped and barricaded himself in the car with some weapons.

“We have some hostage negotiators that are speaking with him over the phone right now and our emergency support team is out there controlling the area, making sure everybody’s safe,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw told WWJ. “We’ll try to talk him out of this peacefully.”
