‘The Mick’ Season 2 Spoilers: ‘Casual’ Star Michaela Watkins Joins Cast
“Casual” star Michaela Watkins has booked a recurring role in Season 2 of Fox’s “The Mick.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, Watkins will play the role of a wealthy divorcée at rock bottom named Trish. Trish is Mickey’s (Kaitlin Olson) new friend who gets a crush on Jimmy (Scott MacArthur).
Olson, who also serves as an executive producer on the show, said that Trish’s introduction to the series will lead Mickey to reevaluate her relationship with Jimmy. “I wanted to make sure we explored the Mickey-Jimmy relationship this year, because I think it’s such an interesting dynamic,” Olson told the news outlet. Series creators Dave and John Chernin added that “there’s a lot of high and lows in the Jimmy-Mickey romance” in the new season.
In addition to her series regular role as Valerie in Hulu’s “Casual,” Watkins is also known for her performance as Jackie Fisher in ABC’s short-lived but critically acclaimed sitcom “Trophy Wife.” The 45-year-old actress recently guest starred on TBS’ “The Guest Book,” ABC’s “Speechless” and TV Land’s “Nobodies.”
Aside from her recurring stint on “The Mick,” Watkins can also be seen next in the comedy film “Antiquities,” romance flick “Under the Eiffel Tower” and comedy-drama movie “Dude,” which are all set to be released sometime this year.
After the Pemberton mansion went up in flames at the end of the Season 1 finale of “The Mick,” Mickey takes Sabrina (Sofia Black-D’Elia), Chip (Thomas Barbusca) and Ben (Jack Stanton) to a five-star hotel. But after using up all the remaining money they have, Mickey and the kids — together with Jimmy and Alba (Carla Jimenez) — are forced to figure out how to get by.
“We’re just trying to survive this season,” Jimenez told TV Guide of what fans can expect from the family in Season 2. “We’re trying to figure out what we need to do. We don’t know where the money’s going to come from.”
While the characters no longer have the mansion, Olson assured viewers that next season will still be enjoyable to watch. “We’re tossing a bunch of stuff around. It’s gonna be fun,” Olson told KPTV.com last July. “I think they’re gonna bounce around and try to figure out where to live. [In the Season 1 finale,] Mickey finally gets a million dollars and then it just all burns up. So they’re right back where they started, but now they really have to come together because they don’t have the house to rely on.”
“The Mick” Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
