Microsoft launched a peripheral called the Surface Arc Mouse alongside the attention-grabbing Surface Laptop during the company’s New York event yesterday. The device is regarded as the perfect companion for the Windows 10 S-running portable computer, and the best part is it’s already available to pre-order.

In case you missed it, Microsoft debuted a new mouse during its special press event on Tuesday. The peripheral, which is being marketed as the travel companion for Surface devices, is slim, light and connects via Bluetooth. It also has a unique form factor that’s designed to conform to the hand of the user. When in a curved position, the device is perfect for long hours of use. When not in use, the device can be snapped to its flat form, which is ideal for when it needs to be stored in a bag for travel and safekeeping.

The Surface-branded mouse has Bluetooth 4.0/4.1 and a 2.4GHz wireless frequency range. Its designe is described as a bendable tail since it can be snapped to a an arc. In this form, it easy for users to rest their palm on the device when scrolling vertically, horizontally and whichever direction. Just like a typical computer mouse, the Surface Arc Mouse has two buttons, the right click and left click buttons. The surface of the buttons also serves as a scrolling plane. The new mouse is compatible with Windows 10, 8.1 and 8. The device is also very light. It weighs just 82.49 grams even with the 2 AAA alkaline batteries included.

It’s obvious that Microsoft designed the Surface Arc Mouse with the Surface Laptop in mind. As proof to this, the peripheral comes in burgundy, light gray and cobalt blue — the same color variants of the new Surface Laptop minus the gold version. It isn’t clear if the Redmond giant is planning to introduce a gold version of the mouse to match the gold Surface Laptop. The new Surface-branded mouse can be bought from the Microsoft store once it officially arrives. For now though, consumers can pre-order any of the aforesaid color variants from Microsoft’s online store. Each peripheral costs $79.99. Pre-order the mouse HERE.

Neowin pointed out that some consumers may feel like they’ve seen the new product before because this is actually a new iteration of the older Arc Touch Mouse, which was also a special-edition mouse inspired by the Surface devices. The Surface Arc Mouse clearly took inspiration from the Arc Touch Mouse in terms of its curved design. However, the former is more refined and simple-looking because of its minimalist appearance.

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s press event on Tuesday put the spotlight on the company’s Surface Laptop, an ultraportable computer that runs the lighter version of Windows 10 known as Windows 10 S. The laptop comes with a 13.5-inch touchscreen display and a fabric-outlined keyboard. It is available in a couple of configurations that mix the Kaby Lake i5 and Kaby Lake i7 processors with up to 1TB of SSD storage. Given its $999.99 price tag, it is more of a MacBook Pro competitor than being a rival to Google’s Chromebooks.
