Midwood Signs Defaced, Police Investigate Bias Crime
Subway signs in Brooklyn have been altered with graffiti in a heavily Jewish neighborhood.
The Q train station on Avenue J, in the Midwood section of Brooklyn, had the letters EW added to it. The police department has removed the sign are investigating the incident as a possible bias crime. The subway station is located at the intersection of Avenue J and East 16th Street.
Education and vigilance are our only weapons in fighting against this blatant hatred, said State Assemblyman Dov Hikind in a statement, according to the New York Post. We must send a message to those who perpetrate these vile acts that we will not tolerate their behavior.
Hikind continued to say that he was disturbed and shocked by the incident, since just last week Midwood was subject to a series of anti-sematic crimes when vandals torched several cars. Police encourage anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
