Mike Tyson got emotional during an open talk with boxing icon Sugar Ray Leonard and admitted that he misses his old self.
Tyson has been officially retired for roughly 15 years. But even though he has distanced himself from the sport he once dominated, he is still loved by most of his fans for being “The Baddest Man on the Planet.”
But as per Tyson, he has been disgusted by his old self and will never want to go back to it. However, during a recent episode of “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson,” Iron Mike sat down with fellow boxing legend Leonard to discuss some of the things that go with being a world champion.
At some point during the talk, Tyson broke down to tears as he recalled his prime. According to him, fighting is all he ever studied and that was the reason why people feared him. The once fearsome heavyweight champ even admitted that he misses the Tyson people once knew because he has been intentionally refusing to bring out the monstrous Tyson again.
“I know the art of fight, I know the art of war, that’s all I ever studied,” an emotional Tyson explained.
“That’s why they feared me when I was in the ring, I was an annihilator. It’s all I was born for. Now those days are gone it’s empty, I’m nothing. I’m working on the art of humbleness. That’s the reason I’m crying cause I’m not that person no more, and I miss him. Because sometimes I feel like a bitch, because I don’t want that person to come out because if he comes out hell will come with him. And I’m scared of him,” Tyson continued.
The 53-year-old legend may never wear a pair of gloves and step inside the ring again. However, he has proven that he still got love for boxing and fighting. As a boxing legend, he likes to go ringside in some of the biggest boxing events. In fact, he was recently spotted going wild when Tyson Fury, one of his favorite boxers today, stopped his rival Deontay Wilder in their blockbuster rematch.
Prior to the Wilder vs. Fury fight, Tyson may have already felt the itch to return to fighting. During a quick catch-up with former champ Shannon Briggs, Tyson apparently said that he still wants to fight.
“But he said he still wants to fight though. He said he still wants to fight!,” Briggs revealed.
