Legendary boxer Mike Tyson revealed how fights went down in prison while he was serving his time.
In 1992, a prime Tyson was convicted of rape and sentenced to six years in prison. He was then released on parole after serving three years and quickly bounced back. He got engaged in a series of comeback fights and like how it used to be, Tyson was knocking people out cold.
After his release, Tyson seldom talked about the fights he had while in jail. But in a recent video call interview with fellow New Yorker Fat Joe, the 53-year-old legend revealed how fights went down in prison. Fat Joe took the opportunity to ask Tyson and requested that the boxing icon will give him raw answers and not “political” ones.
According to “Iron Mike,” he never got the chance to fight with somebody inside an adult prison simply because he wanted the inmates to treat him exactly the way he wanted to be treated while in there.
“I treated anybody the way I wanted them to treat me. And that’s just how it was,” Tyson said.
When asked if the inmates were ever scared or intimidated by his presence, Tyson revealed that none of them were scared of him and everybody got respect for each other.
“They weren’t scared of me. It all came down to respect,” Tyson revealed.
Though Tyson is known for speaking the truth, his latest testimonial about his prison life contradicts with one of his previous statements. In an episode of his podcast “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson,” the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet” admitted that he did have one fight in prison and it was against an inmate.
As per Tyson, they were locked down for a quite some time and he got irritated by an inmate who said something to him,”
“Just one time (I had to put punch someone in prison). Somebody said something and I just went over there and hit him. We were locked down for a long time and it was just something that was irritable and I went over there and hit him,” Tyson recalled.
Tyson also noted that during that day, an inmate got stabbed and as a result, they were all locked down and not allowed to go to the gym.
“We were locked down. We couldn’t go to the gym. Somebody got stabbed or something and we were locked down. I was just upset and miserable,” Tyson added.
