It will be a homecoming of sorts for Mikey Musumeci as it has been confirmed that the Brazilian jiu-jitsu prodigy will be one of the feature attractions in the historic debut of ONE Championship on American soil this coming May 5th.
The Singapore-based combat sports outfit first broke the news on social media on Tuesday, February 14, announcing that the 26-year-old Marlboro, New Jersey native will be sharing the Circle with fellow jiu-jitsu world champion Osamah Almarwai at ONE Fight Night 10.
Hailed by many as the most prolific grappler of this generation, Mikey Musumeci has been nothing short of spectacular ever since he made his promotional debut in April 2022 when he submitted the legendary Masakazu Imanari with a rear-naked choke.
He then made history as the inaugural ONE flyweight submission grappling champion by going the distance with arch-nemesis Cleber Souza to pick up a hard-fought unanimous decision victory.
At ONE Fight Night 6 this past January, Musumeci turned in a dominant performance by outclassing sambo world titleholder Gantumur Bayanduuren every step of the way over the course of 10 minutes to successfully defend his gold-plated belt.
On May 5, "Darth Rigatoni" faces the stiffest test to date in the form of Almarwai.
A protégé of Andre Galvao, Almarwai needs no introduction to the most hardcore fans of jiu-jitsu as he is the first black belt IBJJF World No-Gi and Pan No-Gi champion from Yemen and the Middle East.
In addition, Almarwai is currently ranked No. 1 in the 2022-2023 IBJJF No-Gi rooster division.
Only in his rookie year as a black belt, Almarwai will look to sustain his momentum by picking up the biggest win of his career at the expense of Musumeci.
ONE Fight Night 10 is set to emanate from the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado, and it will be headlined by the much-awaited trilogy encounter between Demetrious Johnson and Adriano Moraes for the ONE flyweight championship.
Fans in the United States and other parts of North America will get to watch the aforementioned fight card on Amazon Prime Video.
Meanwhile, tickets to see it live on May 5 are now on sale through AXS and Stage Front VIP.
