Miles Teller Reveals His Near-Death Experience During 'Top Gun: Maverick'
Miles Teller opened up about his near-death experience amid filming the newly dropped movie, "Top Gun: Maverick."
The 35-year-old actor recalled flying an F-18 hornet jet for a sequence and how the jet was heading straight toward the ground.
"I definitely had a moment where I thought I was going to die," Teller told LADbible in an interview published Monday. "There was a sequence where we were heading straight towards the ground and you do what’s called a max G pull-up."
The actor went on to explain how tough this situation is for the pilot, noting that they get trained for such experience all the time. However, Teller shared that when he realized the jet was heading toward the ground, he stopped acting.
"You’re heading down and at the last second you yank up, and it’s really tough for the pilot," he said. "It’s something they train in all the time, but it was the first time we’d done a manoeuvre like that and I completely stopped acting."
"I looked at the ground, and thought this wasn’t going to end well for me," he added.
Despite having such a nearing death experience, Teller revealed that he never puked even once during the entire production. "I think when there’s that much adrenaline and a healthy bit of fear, I was able to hold it down," he said. "I guess that’s a secret skill I have."
Considering that the actor performed his own stunts in the movie, he was asked if he is looking forward to doing more such stunts in his upcoming projects.
"I’m open to it, but also, I’ve got injured on some films doing some weird things, and when you have a perfectly good stunt guy, I don’t want to put him out of a job, you know?" he responded. "That’s just me being an honest guy."
"Top Gun: Maverick," which hit theaters on May 24, made a whopping $120 million in North America during its opening weekend. The movie also stars Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm, Jean Louisa Kelly and Lyliana Wray.
