Miley Cyrus Engaged To Liam Hemsworth: A Timeline Of Their Relationship [PHOTOS]

Miley Cyrus announced on Wednesday that she and boyfriend Liam Hemsworth are engaged to be married.

I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam, the 19-year-old singer told People magazine. Hemsworth proposed to Cyrus on May 31 with a 3.5-carat Neil Lane diamond ring. And she said yes!

Cyrus shared her joy with her Twitter followers. Thank you for all the love today :) I'm happy to share this news with you all. I feel like all my dreams are coming true. Have a great day, she tweeted to her 5.8 million followers.

Her father also expressed his happines, posting, All I ever hoped for as a Daddy was to see my kids reach their dreams. To find happiness...peace of mind ...and someday know... true love.

Cyrus and Hemsworth, 22, have been dating since 2009, when they costarred in the Nicholas Sparks film, The Last Song.

The two denied engagement rumors back in March when Cyrus was spotted wearing what looked like an engagement ring, according to Us Weekly. I've worn this same ring on this finger since November! Cyrus tweeted to her followers.

But, clearly it was only a matter of time before the two decided to take the plunge.

June 2009: In June 2009, Miley Cyrus first met actor Liam Hemsworth on the Tybee Island, Ga., set of the Nicholas Sparks flick, The Last Song. Cryus said that she developed a crush on the Aussie actor, making their interactions awkward. She paid co-star Bobby Coleman, who was 12-years-old at the time, $10 to find out if Hemsworth liked her too, according to Zimbio. I sent him back and forth. It was really funny, she said.

March 7, 2010: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth make their debut as a couple at a 2010 Academy Awards after-party. While on the red carpet, Cyrus reveals that she had been dating Hemsworth , referring to him as her boyfriend to E! News.

Late-March 2010: Cyrus and Hemsworth begin promoting The Last Song together. She even opens up about the moment she knew Hemsworth was different. He opened the door for me. I was like, 'I have been in Los Angeles for three years and I don't think any guy has actually opened the door for me,' she said at the time.

April 2010: The Hannah Montana actress gushes about her beau to People magazine. I'm not really a big lovey person. I'm not, like, mushy. [But] Liam was the first person that made me want to be in a real relationship, she said in April.

August 25, 2010: Rumors began spreading that the couple had broken up in June but both vehemently denied it. Then, on August 25, 2010, Hemsworth's rep confirms to People magazine that the love had faded.

April 5, 2011: After eight months of being apart, Cyrus and Hemsworth rekindle their romance. Miley is so thrilled at her parents reconciling, and it made her stop and think, and realize that Liam is someone special in her life. Their feelings for each other never stopped, and now that their schedules are better suited for each other, they have been able to work it out. Plus her parents trust Liam, a source told Hollywood Life at the time. They started talking more at the same time Miley's parents were mending things. They started getting back together around Valentine's Day and are now back on as boyfriend and girlfriend.

January 12, 2012: The couple hits the red carpet at the People's Choice Awards looking debonair. January 24, 2012: The singer is photographed suggestively licking a penis-shaped birthday cake at her Hemsworth's birthday party.
