Milwaukee Police Say Multiple Gunmen May Have Been Involved In Shooting That Killed 6
Police have identified four persons of interest in a weekend shooting in Milwaukee that killed six people.
No criminal charges have been filed and no motive has been released, according to Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman. None of the suspects have been publicly identified.
"We're still trying to determine what their involvement was, if any, with this homicide," Norman said.
Six people were found dead in a Milwaukee home on Sunday after police had responded to the home to assist with a welfare check. The victims were five men and one woman. All six of them had suffered gunshot wounds and half of the victims, who ranged in age from 23 to 49, lived inside of the house.
The victims were Michelle Williams, 49; Donta Williams, 44; Donald Smith, 43; Charles Hardy, 42; Javoni Liddell, 31; and Caleb Jordan, 23.
“We can’t have a city where somebody can go and pull the trigger and kill somebody and then go sit on somebody’s couch. We can’t have that,” Mayor Cavelier Johnson said in a press conference. “Somebody out there knows something ... if you know something, say something,” Johnson added.
"This 911 caller claimed that she was a victim of a shooting and that multiple other people were shot," Norman said. The caller gave two different addresses, but neither was on the block where the shooting occurred, he said. Norman added police received the 911 call 12 hours prior to the discovery of the victims. The caller was eventually found and was not injured in the shootings, but her connection to the incident remains under investigation.
Milwaukee has seen a dramatic rise in murders as the city saw a record 197 murders in 2021, breaking the previous record of 190 murders set in 2020.
