Mindy Kaling Reveals She’s Having A Baby Girl On ‘Ellen’
Mindy Kaling is pregnant and she’s a having a girl!
The rumors and news of Kaling’s pregnancy started circulating back in July, but she’s only recently opened up about it herself. And while US Weekly was told about the baby’s gender by one of Kaling’s “The Mindy Project” co-stars in September, Kaling only revealed the news herself when she appeared on the “Ellen” show on Friday.
In fact, she told DeGeneres all about her pregnancy, from cravings to her baby’s gender to her love of sitting, though she’s still keeping the identity of the baby’s father a secret for now.
“I’m carrying a child! I’m very, very pregnant,” Mindy told Ellen DeGeneres. “I’ve had a pretty great time of it so far, but I think I took a lot for granted before this, now that I’m in my current situation. Like, sitting, I’m obsessed with sitting and even when I was standing back there I was looking at this chair and I was like, ‘Awww, can’t wait to sit in that chair!’”
However, as much as she loves sitting, she admits that it's the getting up part that's difficult.
“Getting up is going to be challenging,” Kaling said. “I'm counting on you to hoist me out of the chair."
Always a guest-pleaser, DeGeneres would have no problem helping the Hulu star up if she needed the help. Before that, though, she had questions for the pregnant actress, mainly about her baby.
“I’m not waiting, I wanted to know way early. I’m having a girl,” Mindy replied when DeGeneres asked if she knew the baby’s gender. “I’m excited about it.”
With the gender announced, DeGeneres wanted to know a little more about how the pregnancy was announced, which was by Oprah Winfrey in July.
“I had told Oprah and Reese [Witherspoon] on a movie we’re working on, ‘A Wrinkle in Time,’ and she announced it at press,” Kaling told DeGeneres. “She was very excited.”
Instead of being mad about Winfrey spilling the beans, though, Kaling felt no choice but to be honored.
“If anyone is going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person,” Kaling said. “You can’t complain that much about it. And you also can’t be like, ‘Hey, Oprah, zip it’ because she’s almost like a religious figure. So if there’s one person I have to tell my daughter about that revealed her existence to the world, Oprah is pretty good.”
She also has more important things to worry about then who shared the baby news, as she has to prepare to bring a baby into the world and she has to figure out where she’s going to get her next craving fix, which she’s found quite difficult because she’s craving jelly donuts and says Los Angeles only has unique donuts.
No worries, though, because DeGeneres was to the rescue and her guest gift to Kaling was a tray of jelly donuts, including one giant one. The “Mindy Project” actress wasted no time digging in, which was a true act of life imitating art as her character on the Hulu series always likes to have a baked good in hand.
With the current sixth season of “The Mindy Project” being its last, it’s good to know that fans can still look to Kaling to see some of the same traits of the character they’ve loved for over a hundred episodes.
