‘The Mindy Project’ Season 6 Spoilers: Mindy, Danny Won’t Get Back Together?
“The Mindy Project” Season 6 will soon see Mindy (Mindy Kaling) reuniting with Danny (Chris Messina), but this does not mean that they will become a couple again.
In an interview with TV Line, Kaling said that they had one big question going into Season 6. “How do you balance the desire for a classic romantic comedy ending with the desire to treat our characters realistically and not write a piece of nonfiction?” she said.
Last season, Mindy seemed sad and lost after she decided to tie the knot with Ben (Bryan Greenberg), and this will be explained when the series premieres next week. “What happens when the world’s most marriage-obsessed person finally gets married and it’s very different from what you see in the movies?” she said.
According to Entertainment Weekly, “The Mindy Project” Season 6 will pick up 10 months after the events that took place in Season 5. This means that Mindy has already filed for divorce from Ben. She will also be reuniting with some of her ex-boyfriends and friends, including Danny.
The only problem is that Danny has married another woman, and it is still unclear whether or not he is happy with her. While speaking with TV Line, executive producer Matt Warburton said of Danny and Mindy, “One thing we can promise the audience is a little bit of clarity about where they stand. They’re both married to other people, so we went into the final season with that complication, which is fun and delicious.”
During the same interview, Kaling also said that they did not have Mindy and Danny reunite just so they could get back together. “We aren’t super interested in tying everything up in a bow. We’re trying to avoid that, while also leaving the audience with the sense that Mindy had some growth. Happily ever can sometimes be romantic happiness, but it can also be a feeling of contentment about your life as a professional person and as a mother,” she said.
“The Mindy Project” Season 6 will premiere on Hulu on Sept. 12.
