‘The Mindy Project’ Spoilers: What Happened In The Season 2 Finale? Recap before The Season 3 Premiere

Mindy Kaling will be back to her old antics when Season 3 of “The Mindy Project” premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 16. The Fox comedy will make its grand return at 9:30 p.m. EDT, bringing the laughs and awkward moments that fans have come to know and love.

So, where did viewers leave off? We’re recapping “The Mindy Project” Season 2 finale to catch you up on all the romantic, hilarious and dramatic moments that occurred last season.

Episode 22, titled, “Danny and Mindy,” aired on Tuesday, May 6. The episode found Mindy going all starry-eyed after finding a sort of “missed connections” ad in the newspaper that seemed to be directed toward her – “the pretty Indian girl with the voice of a mouse.” Believing her admirer to be a commuter named “Andy” that she made eyes at on the train one day, Mindy began communicating with him via email.

Of course Andy wasn’t real, but someone was head over heels for Mindy – Danny! He explained to Morgan that he started the ruse so that when Mindy found out the truth she’d realize that she was in love with Danny. With Morgan and Tamra’s help, Danny plans on meeting Mindy at the Empire State Building and coming clean about “Andy.”

Before Mindy can get to the Empire State Building, she has to break things off with Charlie. Fortunately he takes it well, and Mindy heads off to find her happy ending – but not before swinging by Danny’s apartment. Mindy tells Danny that he was “right” about them not being together, and leaves to meet Andy. Danny was crushed by Mindy’s words and decided to not reveal that he was actually “Andy.” Mindy was left on top of the Empire State Building, stood up by her dream man and drenched from the rain.

The following day Mindy got sick from being out in the rain. Danny paid her a visit to tell her the truth, but couldn’t go through with it. Instead, he tried to convince himself that simply being friends with Mindy would be enough. However, he was forced to come clean when Mindy ran into the guy she thought was Andy – and beat him up for standing her up on top of the Empire State Building. Needless to say, Mindy was pretty upset with Danny. While he confessed his love for her, the words weren’t enough to convince Mindy that he was sincere. When Danny asked for a second chance to meet her on top of the Empire State Building she declined.

Fortunately, everyone convinced Mindy to give Danny a shot and she raced off to the Empire State Building … but Danny wasn’t there. Believing that Mindy wasn’t going to show, Danny left to grab a bite to eat. With the help of his buddies, Danny races back to the Empire State Building. It’s at the top that Danny confesses his love to a wheezing Mindy (who was forced to walk up the stairs), and the finale concluded with the pair kissing and arguing about their future.

The Season 3 premiere will find Mindy and Danny experiencing a bunch of “firsts” in their relationship. Meanwhile Jeremy will try to woo Peter’s girlfriend, and Rob McElhenney of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” will guest star as Morgan’s cousin Lou, who swings by the office.
