‘Mindy Project’ Star Mindy Kaling Shares Details About New L.A. Home, Says She’s Scared To Go Upstairs
“The Mindy Project” star Mindy Kaling just moved into her new two-story apartment in Los Angeles. But the bigger space seems to be a little daunting to the comedian instead of comforting.
While speaking with Architectural Digest, Kaling said that there were times when she felt too scared to go upstairs and sleep there. “I’ve lived in LA for 15 years and I’ve never had a second floor. Now I do and it’s a little frightening. I’ll watch a murder documentary on Netflix, and I’m too afraid to go upstairs. There have been two nights that I’ve slept on the couch downstairs,” she said.

The 38-year-old actress also shared that she was very particular about living in Hancock Park. Ten months ago, she scored an off-market deal in the area. But it was only about six weeks ago that she lived in her new home. According to Kaling, she teamed up with interior designer Katie Ridder for her house after finding her on social media.
“I was specific about Hancock Park. It’s one of these places that no one ever leaves. I fell in love with three houses, but I kept losing to the Chinese billionaires who were paying in all cash. I wish I were an Indian billionaire,” she joked.
Ridder also shared her inspiration for Kaling’s interior design. According to her, she took into consideration Kaling’s work as a writer. Since she works with a group of writers, Ridder said that the actress needs enough space to write, eat, watch and do things with her colleagues. “It’s a little Wes Anderson. It’s how layered it looks – he’s very conscious and he’s very generous with the colors in his palette,” Kaling said.
Meanwhile, Kaling will star in the upcoming Disney movie, “A Wrinkle In Time,” where she plays the role of Mrs. Who. The actress’ first photo as Mrs. Who has just been released by Disney exclusively to Entertainment Weekly. Kaling will be joined by Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit, Oprah Winfrey as Mrs. Which, Storm Reid as Meg and Chris Pine as Meg’s dad.
“A Wrinkle In Time” will hit theaters in the United States on March 9, 2018.
