‘Mirror’s Edge’ Gets Prequel Comic ‘Mirror’s Edge: Exordium' From Dark Horse Comics
To get fans pumped up about “Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst,” Electronic Arts (EA) and game developer DICE have announced a prequel comic called “Mirror’s Edge: Exordium” that will tell the origin story of the game’s lead character Faith. Dark Horse Comics will publish the six issue miniseries, with the first issue coming out in September and the other five issues coming out in the months after.
The announcement was made on the official website of Dark Horse Comics, where the company revealed the plans for the “Mirror’s Edge” prequel comic as well as the people involved in the comic itself. “Mirror’s Edge: Exordium” will be written by DICE Narrative Director Christofer Emgard and will feature art from various artists, such as Mattias Haggstrom, Robert Sammelin, Henrik Sahlstrom and Erik Perrson.
Fans who weren’t able to play the original “Mirror’s Edge” for PlayStation 3 have nothing to worry about, as the six-issue miniseries will reportedly be reader-friendly. According to Gamespot, the comics will serve as an introduction to the series as a whole, which is probably why the comic is focusing on the backstory of Faith. Fans will apparently see her transform from a reckless young girl to a heroine who changes everything.
Dark Horse Comics has been responsible for many comics that have been based on existing video games. The company has handled various comic series based on “Dragon Age” and “Mass Effect” for EA and Bioware. Dark Horse also prints comics for “Halo,” after the company obtained the comic rights from Marvel a few years ago.
This isn’t the first time a “Mirror’s Edge” comic has been released to coincide with the game’s launch. DC Comics also released a six-issue comic series as a companion piece to the first “Mirror’s Edge” game, though it didn’t discuss Faith's origin. The DC series was written by Rhianna Pratchett and featured art from Mathew Dow Smith.
Those interested in “Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst” will want to pick up “Mirror’s Edge: Exordium” this September. Each issue will be priced at $3.99 and will be available in all leading comic book stores. No official release date has been announced for “Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst.”
