On Thursday night, those who turned in to see the 93rd Miss America competition saw Camille Schrier given the 2020 title. What do we know about the newly-crowned contestant?

According to CNN, Schrier is a 24-year-old student at Virginia Commonwealth University who is an advocate for drug safety. Leading up to her win, Schrier told the audience that she plans to earn a doctor of pharmacy degree at VCU. At the moment, she has undergraduate degrees in both biochemistry and systems biology.

Her field of study also served as inspiration during the talent portion. During her time on stage, the contestant gave a chemistry demonstration where she poured potassium iodide into separate flasks that contained concentrated hydrogen peroxide, food coloring and dish soap.

"Science is all around us! I've loved science since I was a little girl," she told the crowd, (via the Washington Post) adding, "It's my mission to show kids that science is fun, relevant and easy to understand."

Her crowning moment can be seen below.

In a news conference following the event, Schrier said that the changes made to the structure of the show allowed her the opportunity to compete. Eliminating the swimsuit portion of the show was one of the changes that were made for the new Miss America 2.0 format. "I was a woman that did not want to get in a swimsuit on stage, and I didn't have a performing talent, which is really ironic," she said.

As for what the winner's been up to in the hours since the competition, on Friday morning, she appeared on "Today." "Last night, my life changed forever...and first thing this morning I got to meet one of the most incredible Hokies EVER," she wrote in a caption on Instagram.

Following the competition, she will reportedly begin advocating for Mind Your Meds: Drug Safety and Abuse Prevention from Pediatrics to Geriatrics as she starts to fulfill her duties as Miss America 2020.
