Miss Black USA: ‘I’m no pageant girl’
The Miss Black USA title holder, Shayna Rudd, from Pennsylvania said she is no pageant girl and that winning the 2009 title on August 3 caught her by surprise.
''It was really surprising because all of the ladies were so fabulous,'' Rudd, 23, says about her big win at the University of District of Columbia.
The 22nd Miss Black USA Pageant was hosted by actor Lamman Ricker and 1994 Miss Black USA Deya Smith, featured a prolific judging panel that ranged from Dr. Ian Smith of Celebrity Fit Club fame to the Washington Mystics' Nakia Sanford.
Project Runway's season 5 designer, Terri Stevens, said Rudd was her pick as she was ''real'', the Skanner reported.
Rudd's prize package includes among others a $5,000 wardrobe from Stevens, cash scholarships, a year's worth of make up from African-American cosmetics company Black Opal, where she will also serve as a spokesperson, and an expense paid trip to Ghana.
