Miss Universe 2011: Oprah Never said Supsup Should Have Won [PHOTOS]
When Leila Lopes, Miss Angola was crowned Miss Universe 2011, her runner up Shamcey Supsup from the Philippines received almost as much attention following a statement allegedly issued by Oprah Winfrey saying she should have won instead.
The statement, which has since been denied by Oprah's own Website, claimed that Oprah had reservations about the results:
If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point, the statement said.
According to Oprah's Website there was no truth in the statement, and Winfrey had never made any comments. The moderator on the sight urged users to visit the Oprah Press room saying that there were many rumors circulating the Internet.
Much controversy surrounded the competition with fans criticizing that the winner Miss Angola was asked a more simple question in the question and answer round while Miss Philippines had a much testier run. In response Miss Philippines clarified that the questions came from organizers not from the judges.
Miss Angola was asked if she could change any part of her physical attributes, what would it be and why, to which she told the judges that she would change anything as she believed she is endowed with inner beauty.
Miss Philippines were asked if she would change her religious belief for the man she loves to which the 25-year-old answered that she would not marry someone who doesn't share her faith. She stressed that if the guy truly loves her, he would respect and share her love for God.
Meanwhile as Miss Philippines is gaining popularity through recent media events she has revealed that she has a boyfriend and is in a romantic relationship although she will not reveal his name in order to protect his privacy.
