A dog that had been missing for 12 years has reunited with its owners.

"Zoey" was found on Feb. 10, when a bystander called the police to report that an “old and unwell” dog was dumped at a rural property near Stockton, California, according to a Facebook post from the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office.

Animal Services Officer Brandon Levin responded to the call and discovered Zoey about 60 miles from where she had originally gone missing. This is when he realized that Zoey had a tracking chip and that she had been missing for over a decade.

Zoey had been missing for so long that the chip company reported that she has been dead since 2015, but the owners contact information was still available. Levin discovered that Zoey was reported missing from Lafayette, California, and that her owner's name is “Michelle.”

“Zoey had been missing for so long, in 2015 the microchip company had actually listed her as 'deceased' in their records. Even more amazing, the owners still had the same phone number, though they now live in Benecia,” the Facebook post said.

The video posted along with the Facebook post from the Sheriff’s office shows the moment where Zoey and Michelle finally reunited.
