Missing Hiker Update: Woman Still Not Found After Two Days In Below Zero Temperatures
A 20-year-old Massachusetts woman has been missing in the New Hampshire mountains for more than two days in sub-zero-degree temperatures.
Emily Sotelo reportedly went hiking in Mount Lafayette on the hiking trails of Haystack and Flume. She was dropped off at the Lafayette Place Campground on Sunday morning.
Sotelo is listed as 5-foot-3 and 115 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.
She was last seen wearing a brown jacket and exercise pants, according to officials. Three different search teams were sent on Sunday night.
"Day 2 of search. Wish we had good news to report, but there is no news. The missing hiker has not been located as of 5:00 pm EST ... we will all be out again tomorrow," Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team said in a Facebook post Monday.
Temperatures in the area were at about zero degrees and with a 30 to 40 mph wind chill factor, which has a feel of 30 degrees below zero.
The search and rescue teams have 60 ground searchers, air support and incident command and Blackhawk helicopters on the lookout. The search teams will continue on Tuesday at the same extent they have been in hopes of bringing her back.
