Missing Pennsylvania Woman's Body Found Inside Refrigerator At Boyfriend's Apartment Building, Accused Arrested

A man was charged after the body of his girlfriend was found inside a refrigerator in an apartment building in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania.

The Allegheny County Police Department said the woman, identified as 38-year-old Kristy Jefferson, was reported missing on April 29. Investigation revealed that the woman and her boyfriend, Daryl Jones, were in an abusive relationship and that the woman was worried about her safety.

A search warrant was executed on his home and officers found several pieces of evidence inside the apartment. On Monday morning, officers responded to the apartment building after neighbors found a corpse in an unplugged refrigerator in the second-floor hallway. Investigators confirmed that it was the missing woman’s body.

“I’m not even sure it was a person at first. I saw a hand and a dirty sheet. It was gruesome,” neighbor John Starling said. Neighbors said the smell prompted them to look into the refrigerator.

Following this, Jones was taken into custody and charged with abuse of a corpse. He was being held at Allegheny County Jail. Investigation into the incident was ongoing and the manner of death was not known. Meanwhile, anyone with any information was requested to call 1-833-ALL-TIPS.

The incident comes days after a corpse was found stacked inside a freezer of an apartment in New York City. The decomposed corpse was discovered by the son of a deceased woman while he was clearing out her apartment. The unidentified man, who was was at the apartment to pick up a couple of things, screamed upon opening the refrigerator. He immediately alerted the police. Investigators said the corpse was rotten beyond recognition and hence, it was hard to tell if it belonged to a man or a woman.

In another incident last year, a man killed his wife, kept the corpse in a refrigerator for a week before dumping it in a canal in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. Local residents found half-burnt body parts in the canal and alerted police. Investigation revealed that the man, Abdul Rehman, killed his wife, dismembered her, stored her body parts in the refrigerator for a week.
