The body of a dog that was reported missing, was found burned inside a men’s restroom at the Henderson County Fairgrounds in Kentucky on Sunday ( June 7) afternoon.

Henderson Police Department deputies along with officials from the Animal Control responded to the fairgrounds at 383 Sam Ball Way after receiving calls about a dead dog.

The authorities found a pet dog burned to death inside the men’s restroom in the fairground. The rabies tag found on the body helped the officials identify the dog. The male dog was named Duke. Further investigation revealed that Duke’s identity matched that of the dog that was reported missing recently. The reports of the missing dog had been circulated in social media; the authorities from the Animal Control board were also notified about the missing dog.

The officials from the Animal Control and Henderson Police Department notified the owner about the dog’s tragic death.

An official statement released by the Henderson County Animal Control on Monday afternoon said, “Upon observation, it was clear the death had occurred during the night, approximately 12 hours prior to being discovered and that the dog had been intentionally burned alive.”

“We are frightened and saddened to know someone capable of such a horrific and inhumane act of torture could potentially strike again,” the statement read.

It is still unclear as to who committed the gruesome crime. Investigators are questioning people to obtain any information that would help solve the case. “We are committed to working along with the public and HPD to bring this vile criminal to justice,” the statement read.

Officers are reviewing surveillance footage in the nearby areas. The police are also seeking the help of the public to track down the person or people involved in the crime.

“If you have any information, specifically pertaining to any vehicles seen in the Airline Road/Sam Ball Way intersection during the hours of 1-3 a.m. on June 7, please contact the HPD,” the statement continued.

“This is a felony crime and possible violation of the recently enacted Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act. We ask the public to please be vigilant and help us solve this terrible crime urgently. We will not allow Duke to be tortured and lost in vain,” the statement concluded.

The Henderson Police Department is asking anyone with information about the case to call 270-831-1295.
