Missing Pet Dogs Found Dead With Gunshot Wounds, Wrapped In Christmas Lights
In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, two pet dogs were found shot to death and wrapped in Christmas lights after the canines strayed away from their home in Cheatham County, Tennessee.
The dogs, two-year-old Labrador Retrievers named Rocky and Willow, went missing Nov. 14 after the owners let them out.
"We let them out Saturday morning and I believe they started chasing a deer," their owner, Amanda Justice, told local television station WXMI.
The owners then contacted animal control and two days later, the canines were found dead.
"We were contacted by animal control this morning they had found my dogs. They had been shot and placed back to back wrapped in Christmas lights and holy bush thrown on top of them," Justice wrote in a Facebook post.
The owners are now seeking public help in finding the perpetrator.
"If anyone has any information, please contact Cheatham County Animal Control. There is a $1,000 reward on information leading to the person's arrest on this case," Justice wrote.
Justice told the channel that she had no idea as to why someone would kill her pets in such a gruesome manner.
"Why would you do this to two innocent dogs that did nothing to anyone?" she said.
"I have no idea who did it. I mean the dogs were not mean at all. They were my kid’s dogs. I hope that you get caught. I hope that it never happens again to anyone," she added.
Meanwhile, Cheatham County Animal Control told the channel that they haven’t received any leads in connection with the deaths as of Tuesday and have urged anyone with any information to call them at (615) 792-3647.
The incident comes months after a man in Louisiana fatally shot his roommate’s dog. The owner of the white Labrador retriever secured the canine inside the home and walked outside. Moments later, she rushed into the residence after hearing gunshots and found her dog inside its kennel, covered in blood. The canine was taken to a nearby vet for treatment where it succumbed to injuries. The woman’s roommate, 37-year-old Randy Vince Maestas, was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
