Missing Tennessee Child: Body Of Toddler Evelyn Boswell Believed Found After Massive Search
The body of a 15-month-old Tennessee child has reportedly been found after a massive search effort. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) on Friday confirmed the news, saying that the remains are believed to be Evelyn Mae Boswell.
“This is certainly not the update we had hoped to provide this evening,” Lisa Earhart, spokeswoman for the TBI, said during the announcement.
Boswell was allegedly last seen in late December and an Amber Alert was issued roughly three weeks ago. This prompted a 17-day, three state search effort that culminated in Friday’s news. The remains were reportedly found in Blountsville, Tennessee, on the property of a relative, Tommy Boswell. They have been turned over for an autopsy that will hopefully yield identification.
Megan Boswell, 18, the child’s mother, was arrested for filing a false report on Feb. 25, after her initial statements to police were found to be misleading. She first said that Evelyn was with her father, Ethan Perry, but he was found to be stationed at an Army base in Louisiana. She then said that her mother, Angela Boswell, had taken Evelyn camping in Virginia, but searches of numerous nearby campsites were unsuccessful.
Megan Boswell’s inaccurate reports are believed to have slowed the investigation considerably. She is currently being held with a $25,000 bond and next scheduled to appear in court on May 8. Conflicting reports from Megan and her mother have left authorities uncertain of when exactly Evelyn was last seen.
Authorities have said that the investigation into Evelyn Boswell’s death is ongoing and urged citizens not to jump to conclusions.
“I agree with what District Attorney General [Barry] Staubus said that this is the very early stages and everyone to please be cautious about rushing to judgment here,” Brad Sproles, Megan Boswell’s court-appointed attorney, said in a statement. Sproles also said that he broke the news about her daughter to Megan and that her reaction was “somewhat to be expected” for such “a tragic situation.”
