Missing Utah Woman’s Father Feels Justified After Father-in-law Arrested
Chuck Cox, father of the missing Utah woman believes that he is justified by the disclosure of the alleged behavior of Susan’s father-in-law Steven Powell.
Steven was arrested on Thursday on the charges of voyeurism and child pornography.
Cox on Saturday said that the mystery behind his daughter's disappearance is coming to some conclusion after the arrest of her father-in-law.
Cox told Salt Lake Tribune that Steve secretly filmed young girls and women in public, focusing on their buttocks, breasts and genital areas. This action of Steve put a “context” on his character attacks on Susan and her family, Cox said.
Powell was “projecting his own issues on her and trying to read sexual innuendos onto her journals and everything,” Cox said. “I feel vindicated. That feels good.”
Police arrested the 61-year-old Steven on Thursday at his home in the quiet Country Hollow subdivision on 14 counts of voyeurism which include two cases that involve children and one count of possessing sexually explicit images of minors.
Police while searching Steve’s house on Aug. 25 found several explicit images of females which include some of Susan's images. The photos were taken on videotapes and compact discs without their knowledge.
“Steve remains in jail and no arrangements have been made to pay his $200,000 cash-only bail,” Ed Troyer, spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, said Saturday.
Steve Powell in an interview earlier had described his daughter-in-law as a “very flirtatious, sexual being.”
Susan, now 30, went missing on Dec. 7, 2009. Josh Powell, her husband, told police that around 12.30 a.m. he left his wife at home that day to go winter camping with their young sons.
Josh Powell was the only person of interest in the case but he was never arrested or charged. Josh Powell’s family also stated that Susan was sexually immoral and emotionally unbalanced.
