This couple was willing to go the extra mile for their love! A woman, who was "missing" since 2010 and was presumed dead by her parents, has been living secretly with her boyfriend for 11 years, hiding inside his room without the knowledge of his family members.

The decade-long mystery unraveled Tuesday when police officers found the couple in a rented house in a village in the Indian state of Kerala, The New Indian Express reported.

Sajitha was 18 years old when she disappeared on Feb. 2, 2010. Her parents filed a complaint with the police and an extensive search was launched, which continued for many months. Several people, including her neighbor Rahman, were questioned, but to no avail.

After a while, her parents presumed her dead and the search efforts died down.

However, unbeknown to anyone, Sajitha was staying with Rahman at his house for over a decade. Rahman shared the house with his parents and sister, who had no clue that the woman was hiding in his room.

A senior police officer said the couple was in love and had kept their relationship a secret as they belonged to different religions and were afraid of backlash. "Nobody knew about their affair. In any elopement, both persons go missing," the officer was quoted by The Indian Express. Since Rahman went on with his life, none suspected anything.

However, three months ago, Rahman disappeared from his house. His relatives filed a man-missing complaint and he was traced to a nearby village. To the shock of the police and his relatives, they found him living in a rented house with Sajitha.

On further questioning, Rahman confessed to keeping her hidden in his room for a decade. The man, who works as a painter, never used to let anyone inside his room. He also acted like a mentally unstable person so that his parents would stay away from his room to not upset him further.

"He would even take his food in to eat. During the day, as everyone was at work, Rahman and Sajitha would have the house to themselves," the police official added.

Sajitha would step out of the house only at night to carry out her daily ablutions. She also had a TV, which she used to listen to using earphones. She even used to dry her washed clothes inside her room to avoid any kind of suspicion.

"We went to the house, inspected all the rooms, and questioned the couple separately. Both of them had the same story to tell. Rahman said they wanted to move out of his house after three months, but lack of income forced them to continue there," another police officer said.

The couple was later produced in a court. The judge allowed Sajitha to go with Rahman after she expressed her desire to do so.
