A Mississippi man accused of killing his estranged wife and abducting their 2-year-old daughter was taken into custody in Alabama on Tuesday night. The child was found safe.

Joe Quincy McCord fatally shot the child’s mother at their apartment in Pascagoula on Tuesday evening. An amber alert was issued by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation after the child, Genisis McCord, was reported missing.

Joe then fled to Mobile, Alabama, from where he called the police to surrender. He was arrested at Chevron gas station in Mobile, following which the amber alert was canceled.

In the alert, Genesis was described as a two feet tall girl with brown eyes and black hair while the suspect was described as 5 ft, 9 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. Police said he was considered armed and dangerous and that he was traveling in a 2018 gray or gold Ford Fusion with Alabama license plate number 2CC5166. People with information about the suspect were asked to contact the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation at 855 642 5378.
