  • Fernando Tatis will be sidelined for the next couple of months due to a fractured wrist
  • The Padres are keeping their faith in Tatis and will continue to honor his current deal
  • Jake Cronenworth and Ha-Seong Kim are expected to fill in the void

The San Diego Padres are keeping the faith in Fernando Tatis Jr. despite suffering a fractured left wrist that will keep the shortstop out for up to three months.

Padres general manager A.J. Preller revealed the unfortunate injury that the 23-year-old suffered which may require surgery.

If so, this would keep “El Nino” sidelined for about three months, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reported.

Despite this development, San Diego reportedly has no plans of voiding the contract of Tatis.

The Dominican baseball player suffered the injury while operating a motorcycle–something that can be used as a basis to void the contract, Jon Morosi of the MLB Network reported.

The Padres are looking more at the long-term picture they have with Tatis. Moreover, voiding the deal would be a complicated process, additional headaches that San Diego may not want to go through right now.

This would include having to prove the Tatis suffered the fracture when the incident happened back in December.

Tatis did not report the injury he sustained for three months although this was due to the MLB lockout.

"Tatis has pledged to the Padres that he will no longer ride on motorcycles," Morosi penned. "I'm told the injury has given Tatis renewed perspective on obligations to the organization, teammates, fans, and himself."

The All-Star player publicly addressed the injury on Monday, March 14.

"It’s terrible," Tatis said to reporters. "I feel like everybody's disappointed, especially me. I feel like we have a pretty good chance this year as a team, and I just want to be out there for my teammates."

Considering the two-time Silver Slugger award winner is one of the best players in the league, his absence will be huge for the Padres.

Last season, he slashed .282/.364/.611 with a league-best 42 home runs, 97 RBI, and 25 stolen bases in 130 games.

Looking at their lineup, San Diego may have a hard time picking the player to fill in the void left by Tatis for the coming months.

Among those who could step up include Jake Cronenworth and Ha-Seong Kim, the Bleacher Report reported.
