MLB News: Three-Time All-Star Not Fretting About Future With Yankees
KEY POINTS
- Aaron Judge is not losing sleep about his contract situation with the Yankees
- Judge's next contract will depend on the new MLB collective bargaining agreement
- The Yankees may offer Judge a contract before he becomes a free agent
There were a lot of Major League Baseball (MLB) players who had unfinished business as far as contracts are concerned.
Among them included three-time All-Star Aaron Judge.
With the MLB still on lockout, it remains to be seen if Judge would get a contract extension with the New York Yankees.
His future appears to be uncertain, but the 29-year-old is hardly fretting for now.
Judge hardly has qualms being a Yankee, an organization he thinks highly of.
If he had his way, the 2017 AL Rookie of the Year would prefer to be a Yankee for life.
The right-fielder appeared on the R2C2 podcast that was released recently. Judge is aware of his future but appears ready for anything as far as his MLB future is concerned.
“If we get an extension done before the season starts, that’d be great. I’d be completely honored to wear pinstripes for a couple more years. But if it doesn’t happen and this is my last year [as a Yankee], I had a lot of great memories,” Judge stated.
One thing going for him is that is he is coming off his best season since 2017. But his tenure goes beyond that, particularly in the financial sense.
This is where the collective bargaining agreement would factor in.
A new deal for Judge would mean a huge annual salary if he and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman can get something done.
As of this writing, there have been no discussions since New York does not normally offer an extension to players before they become free agents.
But then again, the case of Judge is different. He is branded as a special player, so the Yankees may pull something.
However, all that may only come to fruition once the MLB lockout ends.
Regardless of his contract situation, Judge stressed that this will not alter how he plays when he steps on the field, the Post reported.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s the last year or the first year, I’m gonna go out there and play my best and do what I need to do for this city and what I need to do for the team,” he stated.
“It’s all in God’s hands. It’s gonna work out the way it’s supposed to. That’s why I’ve got agents. I’ve got people taking care of that. I’m not even worried,” the two-time Silver Slugger Award-winner added.
