MLB Playoffs 2020 Odds: Dodgers, Yankees, Braves, Athletics Favored To Win Division Series
With eight teams left in the 2020 MLB Playoffs, the two division series in the American League are thought to be much more unpredictable than both National League series.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves are the biggest favorites in the second round of the postseason. The New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics are slight favorites to meet in the ALCS, but neither team even has -150 odds to win their upcoming best-of-five series.
Each series is a divisional matchup.
The ALDS starts Monday in California. The NLDS starts Tuesday in Texas. Every game will be played at a neutral site, and there are no scheduled off-days in any of the four series.
Here’s a look at all four series with betting odds from FanDuel Sportsbook.
Houston Astros (+116) vs. Oakland Athletics (-136)
The A’s finished seven games ahead of the Astros to win the AL West and won the season series 7-3 against Houston. Houston is coming off a sweep of the Minnesota Twins, while Oakland needed three games to get by the Chicago White Sox in the wild-card round. The Astros won the 2017 World Series and lost Game 7 of last year’s Fall Classic. The Athletics just won their first playoff series in 14 years.
New York Yankees (-128) vs. Tampa Bay Rays (+108)
The odds don’t reflect what happened between the AL East rivals in the regular season. Tampa Bay was seven games better than New York and finished with a four-game lead atop the overall AL standings. The Yankees are slight favorites, despite losing eight of 10 matchups with the Rays. Both teams swept their respective wild-card series. New York has reached the ALCS in two of the last three years. The Rays have made it to the ALCS once in franchise history.
Miami Marlins (+245) vs. Atlanta Braves (-300)
Miami’s unexpected run is expected to end in the NLDS after surviving an early-season coronavirus outbreak to go 31-29 and sweeping the Chicago Cubs in the wild-card round. Atlanta won its third straight NL East title with a four-game edge over Miami, beating the Marlins six times in 10 tries. The Braves shut out the Cincinnati Reds in the wild-card round. Since losing in the 2001 NLCS, the Braves are 0-8 in the NLDS. Miami is back in the playoffs for the first time since 2003 when the Marlins won the World Series.
San Diego Padres (+210) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (-250)
Los Angeles led MLB with a 43-17 record and swept the Milwaukee Brewers for an eighth trip to the NLDS in as many years. San Diego clinched its first trip to the NLDS in 14 years by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in three games last round. The Dodgers are 6-4 against the Padres and finished six games ahead of San Diego for another NL West title. LA is the clear World Series favorite with +250 championship odds.
