The 2020 MLB playoff race is setting up for a wild weekend in the National League, where six teams are vying for four postseason berths.

The St. Louis Cardinals (27-26), Miami Marlins (28-28), San Francisco Giants (28-27) and Cincinnati Reds (29-28) round out the NL playoff picture with four days left on the regular-season schedule. The Philadelphia Phillies (28-29) are a game out of the postseason as the No.9 seed. The Milwaukee Brewers (27-28) are very much in the hunt, as well.

All six teams are separated by just one game in the standings.

St. Louis and Milwaukee begin a five-game series Thursday that will go a long way in determining one of the wild-card berths. The Brewers are 3-2 against the Cardinals this season.

While the rest of the league is set to complete a 60-game schedule Sunday, St. Louis will only play 58 games because of a coronavirus outbreak among its players that caused two straight weeks of postponements in August. The Cardinals have played nine doubleheaders, but two games against the Detroit Tigers have not been made up.

If one or both those contests can affect a playoff berth, they’ll have to be played Monday.

Philadelphia was in the playoff picture until the Phillies went on a four-game losing streak. San Francisco won three out of four games to take their spot.

Cincinnati has made a late surge to get into the playoff picture. After starting the season with a 20-26 record, the Reds have won nine of 11 games.

The Los Angeles Dodgers (39-17) have won the NL West, and the Atlanta Braves (34-22) are NL East champions for a third straight year. The San Diego Padres (34-22) have clinched a wild-card berth. The Chicago Cubs (32-24) are in the playoffs and on the verge of clinching an NL Central title.

Six American League playoff berths are set, and the final two could be clinched before the weekend starts.

The first round starts for the AL Tuesday, while the four NL wild-card series begin Wednesday. The higher-seeded team will host every game in the best-of-three series. There are no scheduled off-days in between games.

The division series, league championship series and World Series will take place at neutral sites.
