Wil Myers will be switching back to an old position come the 2019 MLB season, with reports saying that he will be playing the outfield once more. Myers played the outfield back in 2015, and the decision was made during a recent discussion with general manager A.J. Preller and manager Andy Green.

"I did tell them I want to do what's best for the team going forward. Obviously, I want to win, and whatever we can do to do that, I'm down for. ... I feel like both sides are happy," Myers said.

Myers played the outfield back in 2015 after he was acquired in a three-man trade. He played first base for two seasons before giving way to Eric Hosmer last year. He did start out in the outfield last year, but an injury forced him to move to third base and the 28-year-old struggled to adjust, ESPN reported.

It remains to be seen if Myers can rediscover his game with the switch. He was the AL Rookie of the Year with Tampa Bay in 2013 and an All-Star with San Diego in 2016 when the game was played at Petco Park.

He will join a crowded outfield that includes Hunter Renfroe, Franmil Reyes, Manuel Margot, Travis Jankowski and Franchy Cordero. And now, the move seems to indicate that the Padres will be looking for a third baseman to pick up the slack.

MLB.com reported that once the Padres are able to settle their needs in other positions, the third base should complete it all. But the question is on whether they can get a long-term or stopgap third baseman until next winter.

That all depends on how Preller buckles down to work this winter and try to get the Padres back in contention. Included in those plans would be Nolan Arenado and Anthony Rendon, two notable third basemen who are expected to hit the open market next offseason.

The latest on the Padres is that they agreed to deals with three players, closer Kirby Yates, catcher Austin Hedges and left-hander Robbie Erlin, ESPN reported.

Yates agreed Friday to a deal for $3,062,500, Hedges for $2.06 million and Erlin for $1.45 million. A day before these deals, outfielder Travis Jankowski agreed to a $1,165,000 salary for this year.
