MLB Standings 2022: Mets, White Sox, Cardinals, Rockies Have Best Records After One Week
It’s been one week since Opening Day, and a handful of teams have gotten off to very strong starts. Four clubs have won better than two-thirds of their games, taking a spot atop the very early 2022 MLB standings.
The New York Mets (5-2) lead all of baseball as the first team to five wins. The Colorado Rockies (4-1) and Chicago White Sox (4-1) are tied for MLB’s best winning percentage. The St. Louis Cardinals (3-1) have the sport’s fourth-best record with one week in the books.
Every other MLB team has at least two losses on their resume. None of the top four teams made it beyond the division series last season.
The Mets have met high expectations with the best rotation in baseball. Even without Jacob deGrom, New York ranks first with a 1.29 ERA from its starters.
Tylor Megill, who replaced deGrom on Opening Day, has been superb with two wins and no runs allowed in 10.1 innings. Max Scherzer has won each of his first two starts as a Met, posting a 3.16 ERA and a league-high 13 strikeouts. Mets first baseman Pete Alonso leads the National League with 10 RBI.
Colorado’s hot start is the most surprising. Predicted to battle for last place in the NL West with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2-4), the Rockies won two out of three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers (3-2).
The Mets are the only NL team that has pitched better than the Rockies and their 2.54 ERA. Colorado’s bullpen has posted an MLB-best 0.78 ERA in 23 innings. Third baseman Kris Bryant is hitting .350 in his first week with the team.
St. Louis sits atop the NL Central with a league-high .271 batting average and an .874 OPS. Third baseman Nolan Arenado is hitting .438 with three home runs and nine RBI. Second baseman Tyler Edman has a 1.159 OPS.
A pair of Cardinals’ legends are off to hot starts. Adam Wainwright threw six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts on Opening Day. Albert Pujols has three hits and a home run in nine at-bats.
The White Sox are the lone remaining one-loss team in the American League. Center fielder Luis Robert has been Chicago’s best player, hitting .350/.381/.700 with two home runs and four stolen bases. The White Sox are second in the AL in both runs per game and ERA.
The Toronto Blue Jays (4-2) and Houston Astros (4-2) are MLB’s other division leaders through one week.
