The career of former BRAVE Combat Federation title-aspirant Rolando Dy might not entirely be over according to promotion president Mohammed “The Hawk” Shahid.
In an exclusive one-on-one interview with the International Business Times, Shahid revealed that he had already spoken with the Filipino following his decision loss to Slobodan Maksimovic.
“We’ve had a very good conversation with Rolando [Dy] and after it, Rolando was very aware of his emotions that he was feeling after it. That’s fair. Anybody will be [with that result]. I think he’s going to get back into fighting. I think he has a lot to give, and I’m sure he’s going to give a lot more,” Shahid said.
The former UFC fighter went on a social media outburst after the fight, declaring that he was no longer interested in fighting anymore while also blaming himself for not being able to finish Maksimovic.
Shahid was understanding of Dy’s sentiments on social media and related it to how football players react directly after the match when they face the media.
“It’s a lot like losing a football match. If you ask a football player [directly] after the match how they feel, they’re going to be destroyed mentally and physically. It’s not a good feeling. You’re going to have a lot of thoughts racing through your mind,” Shahid stated.
In his six-fight stint with the Bahrain-based organization, Dy accumulated a record of two wins and three losses with one no contest.
Prior to facing Maksimovic, Dy only needed one more win in order to fight for the BRAVE CF lightweight title, but his loss to Abdisalam Kubanychbek erased that opportunity.
Shahid’s claims of speaking with Dy have since been confirmed in another social media post from the 30-year-old, apologizing for what he has said and acknowledging that his rant was fueled by emotions.
According to the company head honcho, the fight was so closely contested that he would not have minded whether the fight was scored in favor of Dy or Maksimovic, with both fighters having a claim to victory either way.
However, fans of “The Incredible” just might see him fight again very soon after a seemingly tell-all one-liner from the BRAVE CF president.
“I think Rolando Dy is coming back,” Shahid cheekily remarked towards the end of the interview.
