KEY POINTS
- Conor McGregor sheds light on ruckus with Machine Gun Kelly at the MTV VMAs
- McGregor just wanted to say hello and take a picture with the rapper
- McGregor is not interested in fighting Machine Gun Kelly
UFC star Conor McGregor has been notorious for starting skirmishes or creating scenes.
It appears that is what went on in many people’s minds when he appeared at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards recently.
Initial reports from TMZ claimed that the ex-UFC champion got into a squabble with Machine Gun Kelly.
If the images of the scene were to be the basis, it did appear that McGregor was ready to get it on with the rapper.
However, it seems that this was not the case. The Irishman shed more light on what happened and explained that he just tried to approach MGK to say hello in a report from Entertainment Tonight.
“Absolutely nothing. I just showed up—and I don’t know, I don’t even know the guy,” McGregor stated. “I only fight real fighters, people that actually fight. I certainly don’t fight vanilla, white rappers. I don’t even know the guy—except that he’s with Megan Fox."
While this should clear out a lot of things since it did come from McGregor himself, a statement from Machine Gun Kelly could also be useful.
This is assuming the 31-year-old feels it needs clarification and if it is worth the time to do so.
Based on the original reports, McGregor just wanted to say hello and MGK said something he did not hear.
One of the rapper’s bodyguards pushed back the UFC star and a source said McGregor did not understand what the issue was.
Another source claimed that McGregor just wanted a photo with Machine Gun Kelly but was denied by the artist.
This allegedly escalated the situation with the mixed martial artist ending up stumbling back and spilling his drink.
Fans also appear to have the wrong analysis of the photo that came out from the skirmish. An initial look depicts McGregor throwing a punch.
But as mentioned earlier, it was nothing more than him extending his hand to MGK and then getting shoved by the rapper’s bodyguard.
Hence, any insinuation that McGregor was trying to start something that could lead to future fights should be doused for now.
McGregor is still not fully recovered from his foot injury and is not expected back in action for some time.
But as far as Machine Gun Kelly is concerned, he may have just been a fan in “The Notorious.”
