Will the third time be a charm for CM Punk? The former WWE champion is still reportedly hard at training in the gym, although it remains unknown why. All this was revealed by his teammate, former UFC champion Anthony Pettis, who admits he is unsure why Punk is hitting the gym.

"He is still training. I don't know what his plan is. I know he's doing some movies and a couple of other things, but I'm not sure if he plans on fighting again or what. But, I know he's still training ... That dude's a hard worker," Pettis said in an interview with TMZ Sports.

Punk, also known as Phil Brooks, was last seen at UFC 225 on June 9, 2018. He went up against Mike Jackson and lost via unanimous decision.

Prior to that, Punk debuted against Mickey Gall in 2016 at UFC 203. The 40-year-old hardly made an impression and was forced into submission via rear-naked choke right in the very first round.

With two forgettable performances inside the Octagon, it seemed apparent that Punk would have a third chance. Not long after the UFC 225 results, president Dana White lauded Punk for his effort but believed he was done fighting in the cage, MMA Junkie reported.

“The guy’s 39 years old. We gave him two shots, and he had a lot of heart tonight, and I think he should call it a wrap,” White said.

As far as being seen in the gym, it seems that Punk is simply trying to keep himself in shape. In the process, he could be using his mixed martial arts skills to work out a sweat but not necessarily to make a third run at a UFC fight.

Punk did show some improvement against Jackson although the effort may not be enough to merit a third fight. At his age, he could be trying to figure out his shortcomings for the sake of personal fulfillment. Besides, it could come in handy in the movies – assuming he would be into some action flicks.

As for wrestling, Punk seems to be done with it. He did not exactly part with the WWE on good terms although there are several other promotions who could give him a try. Either way, it looks like Punk is making his way into Hollywood and leaving the fighting scene for good for now.
