The announcement of "Magic: Legends" was made at The Games Awards 2019 alongside a CGI trailer. The next-generation massively multiplayer online role playing game will, according to IGN, be “set across the iconic planes of Magic: The Gathering.”

PC Gamer, who also reported on the reveal, said that the game has been flying under the radar since 2017. During that time, Cryptic Studios teased a “new free-to-play, action MMORPG” based on the iconic card game.

However, details of the title stopped there, but they added some juicy insights to keep fans on their toes.

“As a Planeswalker, you explore amazing worlds, combat powerful creatures, and meet legendary beings that shape the fate of the multiverse,” wrote Cryptic Studios.

Beta testing for “Magic: Legends” will kick start in 2020, as well as more information on the game. Players can signup via the official website and by doing so, they will receive a newsletter on Beta updates and other important announcements.

Founded in 2004 by ChiYufeng, Perfect World Games is the video game publisher behind hits like “Perfect World – 3D MMORPG,” “Neverwinter” and “Final Fantasy Type-0 Online.”

Cryptic Studios meanwhile headed “Champions Online” and “Star Trek Online,” while Wizards of the Coast are known as one of the pillars of the collectible card game and board game genre, including the aforementioned “Magic: The Gathering” and “Pokemon Trading Card Game.”

Wizards of the Coast also acquired TSR along with the ever popular Dungeons & Dragons RPG.
