‘Mob Wives’ Star Big Ang Tells Dr. Oz About Stage 4 Cancer Battle And Neil Murphy Split [VIDEO]
“Mob Wives” star Big Ang opened up for an interview with TV’s Dr. Mehmet Oz Tuesday. Big Ang talked about her breakup with her husband, Neil Murphy, and talked about her battled with stage 4 cancer.
The reality star, whose real name is Angelina Raiola, said on “The Dr. Oz Show” that it was too late for her and Murphy to make things work. “Now, it’s too late. I would rather be by myself. I would rather be alone,” she said. “I felt like he never stepped up to the plate, so I was done with it.”
Big Ang, 55, has plenty of family members to take care of her. One of her biggest supporters has been her sister, Janine Detore, who brings Big Ang to her doctor appointments and created a GoFundMe account to help pay the reality star’s medical bills.
After beating throat cancer twice before, she now has a 30 percent chance of survival after it spread to her brain and right lung. “I was completely devastated. I couldn’t hear what they were saying. ... I feel like I went deaf,” she said with tears in her eyes. “I was like, oh, this is going too fast for me. Now I’m just hysterical.”
Since chemotherapy didn’t work, Big Ang has turned to immunotherapy, which uses the body’s immune system to fight the disease instead of chemicals.
It’s also much more expensive. That’s why her sister created the GoFundMe account, asking for $25,000 from friends, family and fans. As of Tuesday, nearly $50,000 has been raised to help treat Big Ang’s cancer.
She hopes to win the battle. “It’s destroying me,” she said. “I can’t even believe what I look like.”

Big Ang thanked her fans for their support on Twitter last week. “I know I’ve said it before, but I just want to make sure it’s always known ... Thank you ALL for the concern, support, love, and well wishes,” she tweeted Wednesday. “Your messages aren’t going unnoticed, just understand it’s all very overwhelming. I truly love you all.”
The final season of “Mob Wives” airs on VH1 every Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST.
