American model Vanessa Hessler might not have thought her relationship with Moammar Gadhafi's son could cost her so much. She got fired from her well-paid role as the face of an international telecommunications company after her remarks about her affair with Mutassim Gadhafi were published.

The 23-year-old model revealed her love affair with Gadhafi's son in an interview with the Italian magazine Diva e Donna. She told the magazine that their relationship lasted for four years and it had been a very beautiful love story. She also prefaced the relationship by saying the Gadhafi family was normal.

I didn't have any contact with him since the uprising broke out, but our relationship was one of passion, Hessler told the Italian magazine.

We, France and the United Kingdom, financed the rebels, but people don't know what they are doing, she said. The Gadhafi family is not how they are being depicted; they are normal people.

Although the blonde model can still be seen in Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein and L'Oreal ads, she lost her latest job with Telefonica, in Germany, where she is seen on posters, billboards and all over the Internet, Examiner.com reported.

Vanessa Hessler's relationships are private business. However, we cannot accept her comments on the Lybia [sic] conflict, a spokesman for Telefonica wrote on Twitter.

A household figure in Germany, France and Italy, Hessler is publicly known as Alice, after gracing TV and billboard advertisements as the face of the multinational's Alice Internet service, The Daily Mail reported.

According to Telefonica's Albert Fetsch, Vanessa Hessler has failed to distance herself from her comments on the conflict in Libya. Her face will be removed from the company's site within 24 hours.

While some of Hessler's fans on Facebook are praising her for speaking honestly and standing up for her beliefs, many people have also criticized her for the comments.

One Facebook user named R. Gerrit Vanderwest wrote on her Facebook wall: Anyone who thinks the Gadhafi family is normal ignores the well-documented, long, tawdry, and criminal history of a tyrant.

Another user wrote: Gadhafi's family, normal? I can understand you loved his son, but you need a serious reality check, woman!

It's not known when and how the Italian-born model came to meet the Libyan leader's son.

Mutassim Gadhafi was known as a womanizer. He had relationships with a string of model girlfriends including Talitha van Zon. In August, Zon escaped from Libya after claiming that rebel soldiers had threatened to burn her alive.

Mutassim Gadhafi, 34, met with a violent end with his father outside the city of Sirte on Oct. 21. Although officials initially said that he was killed in a gun battle, there are conflicting accounts suggesting that he was captured alive.
