The “Modern Family” cast got emotional as they bid goodbye to their audience.
The TV family sitcom has come to an end after 11 seasons and 250 episodes. The cast of “Modern Family” got a little choked up as they looked back at the past 11 years of filming the series together.
“I was at a table read just a few weeks ago, where I came across the line, ‘Let's just enjoy each other—‘ See, I'm crying just saying it... Let's all just enjoy each other while we still can,’ and I just burst into tears at the table read because I had been burying a lot of that emotion and I just wasn't ready to deal with it. And it all just came rushing at me,” Jesse Tyler Ferguson said.
“We’ve really have been through so much together as a unit and we have been each other's support system and that's just what family does,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sofia Vergara confessed that she hadn’t expected to be part of a show that was so special. She then lamented that the scriptwriters couldn’t write the series like “Law & Order” and they couldn’t go on forever.
“Why do we have to end?” she asked.
Ty Burrell said that they came full circle. He also added that 11 years ago, they felt so lucky that they had a steady job. Sarah Hyland added that 11 years later they are still together and have been there for each other through the highest and lowest moments of their lives.
Ferguson also said that he has gotten married and there were breakups and health scares during these years. He concluded that they have been through so much together, which Julie Bowen agreed on.
“I've watched my children get through most of elementary school. I have buried my cousin. I have gone through a divorce on this show and this has been a place for me to come, so if this is my best job, I'll take it,” Bowen said.
Eric Stonestreet added that he wanted to live in the moment. He knows that he will not be seeing some of the people and crew on set for a long time, if not ever again, and this made him emotional.
“We all are going to go on and do our own things so it's reasonable to say I may not see some of these people for a long time. Some of the crew I may never see again,” Stonestreet said as he began to cry. “You develop 120, 130 different interpersonal relationships with people over the course of 11 years. And then to say, 'Thank you and... goodbye.’”
Meanwhile, “Modern Family” Season 11 finale aired last Wednesday. However, according to Ben Travers, critic and deputy editor at IndieWire, the episode appeared rushed and it left “much to be desired.” He added that the show should have ended years ago when it was better equipped.
