‘Modern Family’ Season 8, Episode 21 Synopsis Released Amid Finale Date Announcement
“Modern Family” Season 8, episode 21 will see Jay (Ed O’Neill) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) surprisingly bonding with each other.
In “Alone Time,” Mitchell decides to spend some time on his own and away from Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and their daughter, Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons). Jay does the same since he also wants to be away from his wife, Gloria (Sofia Vergara), and sons, Manny (Rico Rodriguez) and Joe (Jeremy Maguire). Mitchell and Jay leave their homes separately, but they will end up at the same resort. The father-son tandem will get to talking and realize just how alike they really are.

A series of photos from “Modern Family” Season 8, episode 21 were released by ABC. One of the snaps shows Jay and Mitchell sitting close to each other, and both appear to be unaware that the other is just nearby. Another picture shows both Jay and Mitchell reading a book, still without any knowledge that they are in the same venue. When Jay starts to talk to a server, Mitchell realizes that the familiar voice belongs to his dad. They eventually share a table, and by the looks of it, they will also engage in a betting game. One photo shows the two being surrounded by a group of guys who have a piece of paper in their hands.
Elsewhere, Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire (Julie Bowen) also have a hard time enjoying each other’s company now that their three children are no longer at home. Alex (Ariel Winter) is staying at a dorm in school; Luke (Nolan Gould) is off to college; and Haley (Sarah Hyland) has been in and out of their family home. Phil and Claire would have to come up with creative ways to keep each other entertained. One photo shows Claire with a smug look on her face as she drags Phil along the street.
Meanwhile, Cam will struggle with the fact that Mitchell is having some alone time. He is unhappy to be away from his partner, so he reaches out to Gloria for comfort. Cam and Gloria love each other, and they get along really well so the two characters are expected to have a blast in the upcoming episode.
In other news, ABC just announced the finale date for “Modern Family” Season 8. The hit sitcom will end with episode 22 on May 17 at 9 p.m. EST. This means that episode 21 will serve as a penultimate episode for “Modern Family” Season 8. Unfortunately, even though the finale date for the show has already been set, there is still no word on whether or not it will be renewed for Season 9.
Last month, Deadline reported that ABC and 20th Century Fox TV are reaching a partial agreement regarding the fate of “Modern Family.” But there is still no confirmation from both parties.
“Modern Family” Season 8, episode 22 will feature Manny and Luke’s high school graduation, and the publication reported that the episode is not meant to be a season and series finale. This means that there’s still hope for a Season 9 renewal.
“Modern Family” Season 8, episode 21 will air on ABC on May 10 at 9 p.m. EST.
