“Modern Family” Season 8, episode 17 will see Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell’s (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) marriage being put to the test.

In “Pig Moon Rising,” Mitchell is exercising at the garage when he suddenly knocks over an urn filled with the ashes of Cam’s late pet pig, Lilly. He immediately tries to cover up his blunder by devising an appropriate cover up. However, Cam finds out that Mitchell is lying to him, so he will also come up with a plan to bust him. Cam makes up a tale to trap his partner, only to realize that managing his own lies is very difficult to do.

Meanwhile, “Modern Family” Season 8 only has one more episode left before its season finale. As of late, the hit ABC sitcom has not yet been renewed for a ninth season. Earlier this year, ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey told Deadline at the Television Critics Association tour that renegotiations won’t be easy.

“Talks are ongoing. Anytime you are in a renegotiation, especially at this level, it’s going to be complicated. What I will say is there is a real enthusiasm on our side and on 20th’s side to try to make things happen. We all want to see the show come back next season,” he said. When asked if he’s open to a multi-episode pickup, Dungey said that he is. However, the first challenge is figuring out the show’s fate next season.

As of late, “Modern Family” remains ABC’s highest-rated comedy show despite changes in viewership since 2009. “Modern Family” used to air on Wednesdays, but it was moved to Tuesdays to anchor the night at its usual 8 p.m. EST timeslot.
