“Modern Family” Season 8, episode 9 is expected to bring more laughs and mishaps on Wednesday.

In “Snow Ball,” Manny (Rico Rodriguez) and Luke (Nolan Gould) will organize a lavish winter formal for their schoolmates. However, Manny’s mom, Gloria (Sofia Rodriguez), and Luke’s mom, Claire (Julie Bowen), will later volunteer to help their sons when they discover that the two teenagers are having a hard time with the planning. On the other hand, Gloria’s husband, Jay (Ed O’Neill), decides that he doesn’t want to be involved.

Unfortunately for Jay, Gloria won't stop nagging him until he supports Manny. In order for him to be excused from the school event, Jay tells Gloria that he and Phil (Ty Burrell) have something else to do that day.

Phil, who is always excited to spend time with his father-in-law, tries come up with a special activity which they can both have fun doing. In the promo released by ABC for the upcoming episode, Jay tells Phil that he’s up for anything, as long as it won’t involve going to Manny and Luke’s event. Phil decides to just spend time with Jay in the pool, and the latter is shocked that this is the best he could come up with.

After Wednesday night’s episode, “Modern Family” will go on a short hiatus and will return with the rest of the season in January.

According to Entertainment Weekly, NBA vets Charles Barkley and DeAndre Jordan will be appearing in one of the upcoming installments. In the episode, the professional athletes will attend a charity event in which will see Phil play against them. Since the dad-of-three has been training for the basketball match for the past year, he will be under a lot of pressure to excel. Unfortunately, the presence of Barkley and Jordan will make him lose his composure.
