Mohamed Sanu Victim Of Cruel Prank During 2012 NFL Draft
The 2012 NFL Draft is supposed to be an exciting time for college prospects when their names are called and they're picked by an NFL team. And former Rutgers wide receiver Mohamed Sanu felt that excitement for a fleeting moment in what was actually a cruel prank.
The Cincinnati Bengals were on the clock to select the 27th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft when Sanu's phone rang. SI.com's Peter King described what happened next:
The voice on the other end of the phone identified himself as being from the Bengals, and said Cincinnati was about to pick him. Sanu and those in his draft party exploded in excitement, and agent Mike McCartney even tweeted that Sanu was a Bengal. Then Cincinnati picked [Wisconsin offensive lineman Kevin] Zeitler.
McCartney tweeted to the world that the Bengals had picked his client and was made to look like a fool when Zeitler was chosen.
Very cruel prank call to a Sanu tonight -- very sad that someone would do that, McCartney later tweeted. My apologies to the twitter world for my tweet.
McCartney took the prank in stride.
Tough night. We all get knocked down in life and we gotta get back up. I believe in Mohamed Sanu as a player and person! he tweeted.
Sanu is expected to get his name called sometime in the 2012 NFL Draft, with some experts believing it will happen tonight during the draft's second round.
The former Rutgers wide receiver's Twitter profile was filled with sympathetic tweets. Sanu said he's not letting the cruel prank get the best of him.
Not even worried, he said in one tweet.
U win some.. U lose some... But live... U live to fight another day.. said another.
Sanu is relishing the opportunity to play for an NFL team.
Thank God for giving me another day and another opportunity to chase ?? my dream ?... ?#thankfulandblessed, he tweeted.
