A woman in India was arrested after she killed her 6-year-old son for harassing his infant brother.

On Saturday, the woman, identified as 26-year-old Devi, called her husband, who was at work, and informed him that their older son, Manish, was not keeping well. She asked him to rush back home.

When Teja Ram arrived at their home in Pattanagere, a town in the southern state of Karnataka, he found the boy lying motionless on the floor. When confronted, the woman told her husband what she had done. The man rushed the boy to a nearby hospital but he was declared dead by the doctors, local newspaper the Hindu reported.

The husband then filed a police complaint. Devi told the police that she had a severe headache when she found the victim harassing and beating her 2-month-old son. Despite repeated warnings, the boy continued to beat the infant.

In a fit of rage, the woman hit the boy. When he started screaming, she took him to the bedroom and attempted to smother him using a pillow. When he continued to cry, she took a scarf and strangled him to death.

"As he stopped moving, she got scared and contacted her husband. When he rushed home, she narrated to him the incident," police officer Sanjeev Patil said, the New Indian Express reported.

"Teja Ram contacted a relative and took the boy in the relative's car to a private hospital, where Manish was declared brought dead. Ram reported the matter to the police," Patil added.

The woman has since been booked on murder charges.

The incident comes days after a man in India killed his 7-year-old son and then slept beside his corpse overnight. The incident came to light the following morning when Alankar Srivastava woke his wife up and informed her that he had strangled the boy to death. The man was taken into custody and booked on murder charges.
