A woman in India was arrested for murder after she threw her six young children into a well and attempted to kill herself, reports said.

The 30-year-old mother, identified as Runa Chikhuri Sahani from a village around 60 miles from the Indian city of Mumbai, was accused of killing her six children aged between 18 months and 10 years by throwing them all into a well following a dispute with her husband Monday, police said, as reported by Firstpost.

Sahani who attempted to kill herself by jumping into the well after the crime was saved by the locals and taken to the local police station. Although the villagers attempted to rescue the children, they all drowned to death before the help arrived. The bodies of the children, including five girls, were fished out of the well and their final rites were performed Tuesday, the official said.

An investigation revealed that Sahani killed the children in a fit of rage after an argument with her husband who is an alcoholic. The couple, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, a state 750 miles away, moved into the village in search of work, police said. The investigators also determined that the couple had frequent fights over the husband's alcohol addiction, Times Now News reported.

A 7-year-old girl from the Indian state of Maharashtra died last week after her parents who entered a suicide pact consumed rat poison due to financial issues. The parents, identified as Poonam and Ryan Bracko survived the botched suicide pact with troubles including vomiting and loose motion, but the child died from the incident. The incident, however, came to light three days after the staff at a hotel in Mumbai found the child's body. Police have filed a murder case against the parents and sent the child's body for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of the death.
